They should use this. The Renault Talisman.

Kinja'd!!!

As you can see, it looks good

But since we’re talking about Mitsubishi, who lately proved that they don’t have the most visionary management, they will probably end up with the more shittier Samsung SM5.

Thats a full size sedan with probably a full size price. I can’t see it being competitive price wise. Plus Nissan would likely protest.

and apparently we were supposed to get the SM5 in the US, but news has been scarce on that in the last couple years.

As far as I know this is going to compete, both in size and price, with cars like the Mazda 6, Ford Mondeo (Fusion) and VW Passat.

I am interested in the wagon though. That’s the version that’s going to be responsible for the bulk of the sales, at least in my market it will be.

No it isn’t, it replaces the Laguna in Renault’s lineup, so it’s mid sized. And Nissan can protest all day long, with that segment shrinking in Europe, bringing the car here, may be the only way to make sure Renault won’t become the next Mitsubishi, a maker of compact cars and crossovers.

well the current Talisman is a stretched SM5 with a Nissan V6. I would assume that Nissan has had a hand in this new Talisman as well.

If they plan to sell the Samsung, they are better off with building the Galant again.

I just don’t see where Mitsubishi fits in this and why Nissan would help develop a another competitor for the Altima. Now maybe this Talisman chassis will underpin a new Altima and maybe Mitsubishi would get to sell a rebadge of a Renault rebadge of the next Altima (and avoid most of the costs of federal certifaction)

Because it will help Renault keep this in production. Don’t confuse this Talisman with the Chinese market Talisman.

The European Talisman is a replacement for this.

Kinja'd!!!

Also, because of the European personally, the Mitsubishi badged Renault, won’t have quite the same market base, as the Altima.

I don’t think Mitsubishi has any credibility to sell such an upmarket car (by USDM standards).

When they sold the Laguna in Mexico, the V6 (and later V6 Turbo) was a bit more expensive than a BMW 3 series, the Laguna is not a car that can compete with the Altima in any way, maybe with the Maxima, but even then the Renault is way too sophisticated to be compared to such.

The 3rd gen Laguna shared the same platform as the Altima apparently, so it’s not a stretch that the new Talisman will share a platform with Nissan as well. Again, maybe Mitsu will buy the rights to use the platform too, but I’m not sure Nissan would bite.
